The Baghdad Railway Brigade
After I moved to Istanbul in 1992 a friend of my parents presented a book about the Baghdad Railway to me. It was a gift by her father, F.J. Musiol, who worked as an Engineer somewhere in Anatolia. I have to admit, I didn’t open it for years. I wasn’t interested in First WW-History too much then. Maybe some things need time.
When I opened the book recently I discovered, that it includes some personal photographs, postcards and the translation of an award, the Engineer received for serving in the Baghdad Railway Brigade in troubled wartimes. The Engineers and workers were confronted with acts of sabotage quite often. Musiol made some Photos about such incidents as well. His daughter always remembered, that her father kept a closeness to Turkey for all his life and was a passionate fan of the metropolises İstanbul and İzmir.
