Written by Louisa Döderlein on . Posted in Urban Chant

A new movie called AGORAPHOBIA – Investigating Turkey’s Urban Transformation. A Road Movie.”  from the filmmakers of the great documentary “Ecumenopolis: City Without Limits” (2011) will be coming out soon (propably 2014).

“AGORAPHOBIA” shows the journey of international architects, urban planners and a small film crew , who spent five days in Turkey to study the urban transformation process in three cities: Ankara, Bursa and Istanbul.

The documentary shows for example the metamarphosis of the district “Tarlabasi” in Istanbul and the progressively gentrification and the increasing class segregation of todays cities.

Besides the gentrification in the city, the movie shows the change on the frontier of the cities, by building perihery satellite districts at the expense of the nature, which will be destroyed and extinguished. The film documents family historys, in which tragically whole villages loose their existence of life because  the village inhabitants are forced to leave their home and land on account of the “new development plan” for these rural areas.

The film team consits of the executive producer Chris Luth, the producer Merve Bedir, the director Imre Azem, the editor Mesut Ulutas, sounds from Gaye Günay and camera from Hande Zerkin and Imre Azem and was produced by Kibrit Film.
