Passing by on a carpenter workshop late at night watching the wroker repairing old carpets at 1 am in the morning; long never ending nights of work in neon light. Ottoman Buildings scurry over in artifical lights….
The Fishmarket in Karaköy has been one of this magic places in Istanbul. Just beside the Galata Bridge, you would dive into an atmosphere of healthy good food, a smell of freshness, wonderful colors and very friendly, modest sellers never charging too much. A Solmon for 5 Dollars, can you imagine? A Kilogram of seasonal fish was even cheaper. Streetsellers would sell fresh squeezed orange juice, some fishermen would offer grilled fresh fish. Whenever I felt down, Karaköy Fish market was a spot to gain lot’s of positive energy.

The 29th of May is celebrated as the day of the Conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Mehmet the conqueror. For the Islamist movement the liberation of Jerusalem is the most important agitation theme, the second most important one is the conquest of Constantinople from the Byzantines 1453.
Artist and photographer Nate Larson from Baltimore photographed the Baltimore protests this week at North Avenue & Pennsylvania Avenue with his students. He was struck by the line of police blockading the street and made a portrait of each of the 27 officers comprising the human wall. He wanted to document and bear witness to the tragic events of last night.
