Nuts on Circles
Nuts on Circles is an emotive tool by designer Annina Gähwiler for a person with dementia. It is designed to stimulate interaction between the person and the object, highlighting the moment of activity. The tool can be configured using a series of modular elements embodying links to the individual’s biography. The elements can be joined and twisted and, with the aid of haptic and audio feedback, stimulate senses and evoke emotions.
What is dementia?
Dementia is an exceptionally distressing neurodegenerative condition, for families and for patients and with an ever-increasing ageing population in Britain, its incidence is on the rise.
Authentic Object
The evocative object can build a bridge to the individuals life story and therewith offer an anchor to create an authentic reality.
Music & Mood
The tool allows for communication on an emotional level with the aims of sound. Procedural memory is not impaired with dementia. An emotionally demanding repetitive action, such as practicing an instrument, potentially can be performed till late stages of the disease.
