One last show in 2012
The third performance of “Expeditions in Sound and Music,” a collaborative series between SALT and Undomondo, will feature Nude on Sand. The program will take place in the Walk-in Cinema at SALT Beyoğlu, Istanbul, on Wednesday December 19 at 19.00 and is open to all.
Nude on Sand is a musical collaboration between artist Jenny Hval and improvisational guitarist Havard Volden. Together they defy the notions of how a guitar/voice duo should sound, allowing the music to seamlessly shift between naive blues, spoken word and pop song fragments. The lyrics follow these abrupt changes with endearing absurdity, evoking the workings of the blogosphere as much as of poetry.
Jenny Hval (b. 1980) has in recent years made a name for herself as a writer, journalist, recording artist and sound artist both in Norway and abroad. When her third record Viscera was released in 2011, WIRE magazine described the record as: “a stunning achievement both conceptually and musically.” Multidisciplinary and transgressive are words often employed to describe her art, but Jenny Hval’s polyphonic artistry is in fact seamlessly interwoven between musical, literary, visual and performative modes of expression. Despite her young age, she has already infused, carved and modulated an artistic voice that is altogether present, accessible and obscurely complex at the same time.
“Blood Flight” is taken from the Jenny Hval (ex-Rockettothesky) album Viscera (out feb 18, 2011 on Rune Grammofon).
