A woman was deatined for waving a shoebox at an anti-government protest in Turkey, in reference to the millions of dollars police found stuffed in shoeboxes as part of a sweeping graft probe. Source: AFP
The shoebox has become a symbol of the corruption scandal after police earlier this month found $US4.5 million stashed in shoeboxes in the home of one of the suspects, the chief executive of Turkish state-owned Halkbank.
Pensioner Nurhan Gül was briefly held after she brandished a shoebox as Erdogan was speaking at a party rally in Manisa’s Akhisar district on Sunday.
