No Woman no drive

Written by Sabine Küper on . Posted in Feed the Sense, Footprints, Urban Chant

Hisham Fageeh is a Saudi artist and Social activist. On his Twitter account he supports the movement for abolishing the ban on women driving vehicles in Saudi Arabia. Some people misunderstood it as a praise of the ban, in fact the shadow of irony is the only way the artist is able to publish his criticism since he is a Saudi citizen.

In the song Hisham Fageeh  covers the Bob Marley Song “No woman no cry”, by ridiculing the argumentation of conservatives for the ban on woman driving cars. They defend, that driving would harm women’s ovaries and would cause a rise in the numbers of disabled children.

The song appears just after the Feminist  action “Women2Drive”, that called Saudi women for taking a drive on Saturday 26. of October.  Some female activists courageously published their tours on the Internet.

Take your car
let it go
since you are the ones
that make progress grow
