Gezi Tourists at the Conquest Celebrations- Fethi kutlamalar’da Gezi Turistler

The 29th of May is celebrated as the day of the Conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Mehmet the conqueror. For the Islamist movement the liberation of Jerusalem is the most important agitation theme, the second most important one is the conquest of Constantinople from the Byzantines 1453.

When Recep Tayyip Erdogan became Mayor of Istanbul the conquest celebrations moved to very central places. The official ceremony would be held at the citywalls. The Welfare Party started using the İnönü and the Sami Yen Stadion for their own celebrations. This year the ceremony was made for the first time at the newly created wide banks of the Marmara Sea at Yenikapı. Swiss artist Nicole Hoesli and her husband Matthias Huser attended together with their son Moritz. Noone was intervening a few people just commented “they are Gezi Tourists” when they were passing by.

29 Mayıs (1453) Fatih Sultan Mehmet’ın Istanbul’u Bizantinlerden fethetilmesi günü olarak kutlanıyor Istanbul’da. Bu İslamçı hareketin Kudüs kurtarmasının ardından en önemli agitasyon konusudur. 1993’te Tayyip Erdoğan’ın Buyükşehir Belediye Başkanı olduktan sonra Fetih daha merkezli yerlerde kutlanmasını başladı.  Eskiden resmi tören surlarda yapıldı, Refah Partısı Inönü ve Sami Yen Stadyumları kullanmayı başladı kendi kutlama şölenleri için. Bu sene Fetih ilk sefer yenı yaratılan geniş Yenikapı sahilinde kutlandı. İzviçreli sanatçı Nicole Hoesli şu anda Zürih Kentinin bir bursu ile Istanbul’da yaşamakta. Eşi Matthias Huser ve bebekleri Moritz ile katıldı Şölenine. Kimse itiraz etmedi, yalnız birkaç kişi “bunlar Gezi Turistler” diye arkalarından yorumladı orada bulunmalarını.
